چکیده

Genetic resources are the fundamental source of diversity available to plant breeders for improvement desired traits. However, a large germplasm set is difficult preserve and use as working collection in genetic studies. Hence, present study evaluates 3115 safflower accessions from Indian National Gene Bank, including cultivars, develop manageable accessions, with similar variations studied. A total 18 polymorphic SSR markers were used. The analysis revealed that highly diverse there no correlation between geographical or sourcing germplasm. core was developed using hunter software different levels composition, it found 10% showed maximum gene represented an equal number alleles major allele frequency consisted 351 they validated various parameters ascertain true studied

Population Structure and Genetic Diversity in a Rice Core Collection (Oryza sativa L.) Investigated with SSR Markers

The assessment of genetic diversity and population structure of a core collection would benefit to make use of these germplasm as well as applying them in association mapping. The objective of this study were to (1) examine the population structure of a rice core collection; (2) investigate the genetic diversity within and among subgroups of the rice core collection; (3) identify the extent of ...

Breeding improvements in safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.): A review

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is an oil seed crop that is grown not only for its edible oil but also for its applications as animal feed and plant-made pharmaceuticals. Historically, biometrical genetics played a crucial role in the improvement of safflower seed yield and its components, phenologic and morphologic traits, and nutritional properties including oil, fatty (linoleic, oleic, s...

Utilization of Molecular, Phenotypic, and Geographical Diversity to Develop Compact Composite Core Collection in the Oilseed Crop, Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) through Maximization Strategy

Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a dryland oilseed crop yielding high quality edible oil. Previous studies have described significant phenotypic variability in the crop and used geographical distribution and phenotypic trait values to develop core collections. However, the molecular diversity component was lacking in the earlier collections thereby limiting their utility in breeding progr...

Quality evaluation of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) cultivars

Abstract Safflower is a minor oilseed crop in Australia where the market is dominated by canola, cottonseed and sunflower. Safflower however offers an alternative oilseed crop in marginal areas. This study was designed to evaluate current safflower lines and to determine their potential value both for edible oil and meal for animal feed. Two sets of samples were analysed. The first was a collec...
